WHAT IS A
Customers who travel in 1 or 2 rail zones or who ride one of RTD’s local bus routes pay a Local fare. Local customers can purchase a 3-Hour Pass for short-term travel, a Day Pass for travel in a single service day or a Monthly Pass for all Local trips in a calendar month.
LOCAL FARE?
WHAT ARE THE FARE STRUCTURE ALTERNATIVES?
RTD has proposed two fare structure alternatives for consideration:
-
Alternative A lowers fares for customers overall while retaining Local, Regional and Airport fare levels.
-
Alternative B simplifies the fare structure by combining Local and Regional fares while maintaining an Airport fare.
RTD will be using customer and community feedback to refine these alternatives and form a final recommendation for public comment in early 2023.
CURRENT FARE STRUCTURE (FULL FARE)

ALTERNATIVE A (FULL FARE)

ALTERNATIVE B (FULL FARE)

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?
If you are a Local customer, each of the proposed fare structure alternatives would have an impact on how much you pay for service — and each would have unique benefits and tradeoffs.
ALTERNATIVE A
How would my fares change compared to the current structure?

$0.25 less per 3-Hour Pass
$0.50 less for a Daily Pass
$26 less for a Monthly Pass
ALTERNATIVE B
How would my fares change compared to the current structure?

Same cost for a 3-Hour Pass
Same price for a Daily Pass
$18 less for a Monthly Pass
Benefits of Alternative A
Benefits of Alternative B

Lower fares for all customers, including customers making Local trips

One fare grants access to Local and Regional destinations

Savings of about 23% on a Monthly Pass

One Monthly Pass price covers travel anywhere in the system, including the Airport
Tradeoffs of Alternative A

Access to Regional destinations still requires a higher fare

No simplification of the fare structure
-
Regional and Airport trips with a Local Day or Monthly Pass require a fare upgrade
-
Customers must still select and understand the difference between Local and Regional destinations

Savings of about 16% on a Monthly Pass
Tradeoffs of Alternative B

Local customers only benefit if they travel enough to purchase a Monthly Pass

Otherwise, no benefit for Local 3-Hour and Day Pass customers, who are the majority of RTD’s ridership
